Twinkly Lights

I’ve noticed there are still a lot of twinkly lights around when I take my dog out for our evening walk.

I’m enjoying them but I think they’ve usually gone by now.

The Twelfth Night traditionally marks the end of Christmas. But it’s confusing. It can either be the 5th January or the 6th January. It depends on whether you count from Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

We decided on the 6th this year, mainly because we wanted to hold on to Christmas just that little bit longer than usual.

Apparently it was the Victorians who decided Christmas decorations should be taken down on the Twelfth Night. So everyone could go back to work.

And (I don’t know where this one came from) if you don’t take the decorations down by the Twelfth Night then they should stay up all year!

Maybe that’s why the twinkly lights are still up in my neighbourhood.

Or it could be that, like me, people are hanging on to something cheerful for a bit longer.

Whatever the reason, I’m enjoying them.
