Quarter of a Century

It’s my boy’s birthday – he’s 25, a quarter century.

How I teased my partner (because he was older than me of course) when he reached the grand old age of 25. And that was way more than quarter of a century ago!

To me, my son is still so young! Even though quarter of a century sounds like a big number. When I was that age it didn’t cross my mind that I was ‘too’ young to do anything I wanted to do. The ignorance of youth is bliss. And so it should be. It makes me sad to hear that so many young people are struggling today.

Richard Branson’s attitude to life, apparently, is: “to enjoy every minute of every day. I never do anything with the attitude of oh god I’ve got to do this today”.

That’s what I wish for my son on his 25th birthday.
